“Oakfield” is a lovely cemetery, scenically located by the Mira River on a point of land known early as “MacLeod’s Point.” It is meticulously kept and luckily has not yet fallen victim to the senseless vandalism inflicted on other graveyards. According to Allister MacDonald, the man largely responsible for its care, the first burials at “Oakfield” took place between 1810 & 1815, people named MacLeod and Campbell, who lie in unmarked graves. The earliest dated burial is 1837. The cemetery is still in use and is currently being enlarged, taking into account the increasing population in that area of Mira.
